 Level 3: Bars

You now have the option to replace the Forward Stride Circle with:

*2 Casts value .4 each

            - Emphasis will be placed on proper technique with no minimum cast requirement.

                        - Shoulders slightly in front of the bar, swing the legs backward-upward. Push down against the bar, extending through the shoulders, to lift the body off the bar to execute a cast, with legs together. Maintain a straight-hollow body position with the buttocks tight, the arms and legs straight, and the head neutral.

The casts would be done after the Back Hip Circle

- The casts would be skill number 4

The routine would then proceed to the Single Leg Cut

-         The Single Leg Cut would be skill number 5

The routine would then proceed to the Half Turn

            - The Half Turn would be skill number 6

The routine would then proceed as stated in the JO Compulsory Book through the dismount.

*This is optional and you may choose to continue to use the Forward Stride Circle.

  Level 4: Bars

You now have the option to replace the Forward Stride Circle with:

*A Cast value .6 each

            - Emphasis will be place on proper technique with minimum cast requirement.

            - Minimum Cast requirement:

                        20° Below Horizontal

The casts would be before the Back Hip circle.

- The cast would be the second part of skill number 6

The routine would then proceed to the Back Hip Circle through the Dismount.

*This is optional and you may continue to use the Forward Stride Circle.

Spotting Clarifications:

Level 3: If a coach spots a gymnast, the deduction is .5 for the spot, the judge will determine if the coach assisted the element. Depending on the amount of aid by the coach the gymnast can receive up to the value of the element.

Level 4: If a coach spots a gymnast, the deduction is .5 for the spot and can receive no more than Half the value of the element depending on how much assistance was given.

Level 5-All Optional Levels: If a coach spots a gymnast the deduction is: .5 for the spot and no value for the skill. Compulsory gymnasts would be deducted the value of the skill. Optional gymnasts would receive no value part credit for the skill.

Coaches are allowed on the floor with no deduction at all compulsory levels.

Coaches on the floor at Optional levels will receive 1.00 deduction.

FAQ PDF Print E-mail
Example FAQs

Q.  Are we keeping the same qualifying score for compulsories @ 30.00 AA, and either a 32.00 or 8.00 per event for optional levels?

A.  Yes.

Q.  Have you decided about the time limit for optional 7 floor?

A.  Time for 7 is 1:30.

Q.  Since we are allowing some "C" elements on bars for optional 7, can we allow some on beam and floor without the 2.00 deduction:  (examples:  switch leaps on beam, wolf jump full and double turn on floor.)

A.  C's for what level.  There are allowable C's for level 7.  They are listed on USAG.  Switch and straddle are allowed on beam.  Double turn is allowed on floor (since sometimes it just happens!)  I will have to check on the wolf full.

Q.  Regarding the full turn composition requirement, is it a 0.2 deduction for optional 7 on beam as well as open optional on floor?

A.  Good Catch!  The requirements should read instead of .number should be minimum of 360 turn on one foot!

Q.  Do you think I should add the composition requirements to the table?

A.  No, there are to many, but we should suggest they check them.

Q.  For optional 5, on beam- the dance/mix series special requirement does not specify the minimum number of elements allowed.  I would assume it would be a minimum of 2.

A.  Yes, 2 elements are considered a series on beam.

Q.  For optional 6 general, it states that routines must contain a minimum of 10.00 value.  Did you mean a minimum of 1.0 in difficulty, just like optional 5 requires .8?

A.  Optional 6 needs to contain a minimum of 10.0 in difficulty.  That can be achieved by using A or B elements.

Q.  For optional 6 on floor, the first special requirement reads that two acro series are required, both with 3 flight elements and a salto.  Should it be two acro sereies required, both with 3 flight elements, and just one of those series to include a salto?

A.  Yes, the floor requirement is 2 acro series minimim of 3 elements, one series must contain a salto.

Q.  For Optional 7 on bars, the special requirement of 2 circling elements does not require the elements to be a minimum of a "B", unlike USAG level 7.  Is that correct?

A.  Yes, the circling elements must be a "B", but unlike USAG you can do 2 free hims on low bar to fulfill this requirement.

Q.  For Optional 7 on floor, there is a time limit listed of 1:20.  I'm assuming the time limits apply only for beam.  (There are no time limits listed on floor for any of the other levels).

A.  Since level 7 is following USAG requirements, they have a time limit on floor of 1:20.  I'm rethinking that since most floor music is close to 1:30.

Q.  For open optionals on bars, the special requirements are the same as USAG level 8 with the exception of a level 9 special requirement of two bar changes.  Is that correct?

A.  Yes, the requirement for Open Level on bars is 2 bar changes.

Q.

Some of my girls are struggling with the SR for direct connection of 2 forward acro elements.  I just wanted to double check with you regarding the following connections to make sure they are acceptable and will meet the SR:
O7 -
1. Front handspring, front salto.
2. Front salto, front salto.
3. Front salto stepout, front handspring rebound.
4. Front salto stepout, front walkover?
5. Front salto, dive roll?
(I was pretty sure about #'s 1-3, but what about #4 & #5?)
O6 -
Same as O7 above, plus:
6. Front handspring stepout, front handspring rebound.
7. Front handspring, dive roll.
8. Front handspring stepout, front walkover?
9. Front walkover, front walkover?
(I was pretty sure about #6 & #7, but what about #8 & #9?)

A.  For Level 7 both elements must have flight.  Therefore, dive-rolls, walk-overs, etc could not be used to fulfill this requirement.  So numbers 1, 2, and 3 are correct.  For level 6 the same would be true.  I believe it's spelled out under the SR for floor level 7.
